Tribute to Freddie HubbardJune 3rd, 2019

Mitch Perrin brings his quartet to provide us with a “Tribute to Freddie Hubbard”. Put together with the outstanding bassist Tom Hill (also the voice of ‘Tony the Tiger’ and numerous adverts, computer games and videos), with Bryan Corbett providing the trumpet and Matt Ratcliffe on Keys,  this quartet celebrates the music of the late great legend Freddie Hubbard who recorded and played with almost every American jazz star between 1960-90.

Matthew Hollick QuartetMay 13th, 2019

The band members are 2nd- and 3rd-year students at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and have compiled a set comprising mainly of compositions written either by themselves or by contemporary jazz musicians, and naming as influences artists such as Dave Holland, Kenny Garrett, McCoy Tyner, Chad Leftkowitz-Brown, Christian Mcbride and Kenny Wheeler.

Although still students the various members of Matt’s quartet have already clocked up valuable performing experience working at the Montreux, Vienna and Nashville Jazz Festivals and performed under legendary band leader Mike Gibbs. Please join us for what promises to be an evening of exciting new music in the company of some already very accomplished young players.

Here are some photos taken of the evening, taken by Nigel Hall
